What is Organic food?

Organic food:

  • is food grown in an environmentally friendly way, in a way which emphasises crop rotation, making the most out of natural fertilizers and ensuring that the life of the soil is maintained and ensured for future generations.

  • is produce that is grown without relying on synthetic chemical pesticides, herbicides, fumigants or synthetic fertilizers.
  • is never itself genetically engineered or modified and has not been contaminated by any genetically modified organism.  Also, it has never been irradiated.
  • helps to protect our air, soil, water and food supply from potentially toxic chemicals and other pollutants.
  • conserves natural resources by recycling natural materials and organic farming standards insist on minimal packaging and minimal energy usage.
  • protects biodiversity as organic farming encourages an abundance of species living in balanced, harmonious ecosystems
